What you need to know about exfoliation

Sugar is a natural exfoliator

Exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells from the surface of the skin.

Benefits of exfoliation for your skin
  • smoothes skin by  removing dead skin cells
  • exposes the new skin cells lying beneath
  • helps to prevent the clogging of pores by dead skin cells
  • cleanses skin and removes dirt accumulated in the pores
  • prevents infections and breakouts
  • stimulates blood flow and increases the well-being of your skin by delivering oxygen and nutrients required for healthy skin
Exfoliation is good for your skin provided you do not overdo it.

How often should you exfoliate your skin?

Exfoliating your skin once a week is enough to keep your skin smooth and healthy. The frequency of exfoliation also depends on the sensitivity of your skin.

If your skin is very oily you may have to exfoliate twice a week. Stick to what agrees with your skin.

Frequent exfoliation can damage healthy skin cells and strip the naturally occurring oils present on the surface of your skin.

Exfoliating your skin

Make sure to secure your hair and tuck away tiny hair strands falling on your face. Remove all the makeup and wash your face with a gentle cleanser.

Apply the exfoliator on your skin using your fingers and massage gently in circular motion. Do not scrub hard as this will damage skin cells.

After exfoliation wash off the scrub from your skin with lukewarm water. Gently wipe your skin and then apply a moisturizer. Choose a gentle exfoliator that suits your skin.
